Update to low-voltage safety standard

Master Electricians Australia (MEA) has issued an alert about the newly released update to AS/NZS 4836 ‘Safe working on or near low-voltage and extra-low voltage electrical installations and equipment’.

This Standard relates to work performed on or near low-voltage electrical installations and equipment, providing principles, guidelines and recommended safe working procedures. In this version the scope has been expanded to include AC and DC voltages in both extra-low voltage (ELV) and low-voltage (LV) ranges, recognising the significant electric shock and arc hazards that may be present in these environments.

It includes significant resources relating to arc fault, including PPE and safe work zones. There is also updated guidance on PPE for working around live installations and equipment.

MEA was represented on the committee for the review of this Standard. The updated version is available via the MEA Standards portal (MEA login required).
