Lift companies charged over death of apprentice electrician
Energy Safe Victoria has charged two lift companies and their directors under the Electricity Safety Act 1998 for offences relating to the death of a fourth-year apprentice electrician. At the time of his death in March 2021, the apprentice was working unsupervised on a car lift.
The alleged offences include charges relating to failing to provide effective supervision for the apprentice electrician and working on energised electrical equipment.
It is alleged the 21-year-old died after coming into contact with an energised piece of electrical equipment in a West Melbourne apartment block.
The matters are listed for mention at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 16 November 2023.
