Seminar sneak peek: ARBS 2016

Will the WELL Building Standard be the next Green Star or NABERS?

Find out at the upcoming ARBS 2016 exhibition, to be held in Melbourne from 17–19 May.

Ahead of opening its registrations, ARBS 2016 has announced one of its seminar panel discussions destined to create a great deal of interest within industry will be on ‘Is wellness the next green?’, with panellists exploring the WELL Standard and its potential impact on Australia.

Panellists will include Romilly Madew, Chief Executive Officer Green Building Council of Australia; Tony Armstrong, International WELL Building Institute (IWBI); and Mark McKenna, NDY Group Leader, Sustainability – Norman Disney & Young.

The WELL Building Standard, established in the US by the International WELL Building Institute, uses evidence-based medical and scientific research to harness the built environment as a vehicle to support human health and wellbeing.

More than two million square metres of space has gained WELL certification in 12 countries, while a number of Australian companies are lining up to register WELL projects.

Lendlease has reportedly promised to explore piloting the upcoming WELL Community standard for key urban regeneration projects.

Macquarie Group looks set to achieve the first WELL Building rating in Australia, while DEXUS and Frasers Property have both registered projects.

Key areas of discussion will centre on how WELL ratings could help building owners and managers measure the health and wellbeing of building occupants and whether WELL will become a new market differentiator that separates the leaders from the laggards.

Registrations for the seminar program will open on 21 March. For more information, go to www.arbs.com.au.
