Partnership brings kerbside EV charging to Victoria

RACV Commercial Energy Solutions has entered into a strategic partnership with EVX, a provider of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, to help bring kerbside charging to Victoria.

The two companies will work together to install up to 40 dual EVX chargers across the state. The first two installations — located at High Street and Warner Avenue in Ashburton — are expected to be operational in the coming weeks.

Following this, chargers will be rolled out across the City of Port Phillip, City of Stonnington and City of Yarra.

EVX specialises in manufacturing, installing and operating pole-mounted kerbside EV charging infrastructure. The Australian-designed and -made chargers are installed directly onto existing utility poles, in order to maximise efficiency and minimise additional infrastructure requirements while adhering to local electrical and planning regulations. Each EVX charging unit features dual 22 kW sockets.

RACV Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Neil Taylor said the partnership with EVX provided a scalable opportunity to support Victorians transitioning to EVs.

“This strategic partnership between RACV and EVX will help provide Victorians with access to a diversified, best-in-class public EV charging network,” he said.

The expansion of EVX’s network of pole-mounted EV chargers across multiple Australian states including Victoria is supported by a $2.4 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

EVX Chief Executive Officer Andrew Forster said the company’s pole-mounted charging systems address a critical gap in Australia’s EV infrastructure.

“Partnerships like this with RACV are helping us to accelerate the transition to EVs by providing a reliable, accessible, affordable and sustainable EV charging network across the country,” he said.

“We’re focused on providing accessible charging options for the millions of Australians living in apartments, units and inner-city dwellings without private parking or the ability to install home chargers, or for those looking for convenient charging throughout their day-to-day movements.”

EVX currently operates 100 chargers throughout NSW, and plans to install an additional 120 chargers across Victoria, NSW, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory within the next 10 to 12 months.

EVX said its solution addresses two key barriers to EV adoption in Australia: providing charging solutions for residents without off-street parking and creating a network of convenient, 24-hour public charging stations.

RACV Commercial Energy Solutions has over 10 years of experience in Australia, with its services covering solar panel systems, battery storage, EV chargers, virtual power plants, and ongoing asset monitoring and maintenance. The company provides end-to-end project management from initial site analysis through to installation and ongoing maintenance, and has completed notable projects like powering the Australian Synchrotron facility.
