Global renewable energy company launches Australian subsidiary

Global energy solutions company SMA Altenso has officially opened its Australian subsidiary, Altenso Australia, with headquarters in Sydney.

This new addition to the Australian market will join SMA Altenso’s existing subsidiary, SMA Australia, which provides PV, battery and hybrid inverter technology solutions across residential, commercial and utility-scale applications. In contrast, Altenso Australia will specialise in large-scale utility projects, acting as a system integrator for complex energy infrastructure including utility-scale battery storage, hydrogen applications, and hybrid solutions for both off-grid and grid-connected energy supplies.

The new company is already working on two major Australian battery energy storage systems with project developer Avenis Energy; expected to be ready for construction in the next few months, each project will be capable of delivering 480 MWh of energy.

“We’re excited to bring Altenso’s expertise to the Australian market, where we’ll add fresh perspectives and competitive energy to this rapidly evolving sector,” said Julien Tissandier, Managing Director at Altenso Australia.

“The first projects, together with our strategic partner Avenis, represent just the beginning of Altenso’s Australian pipeline and underscore our deep commitment to enabling Australia’s clean energy transition.”

The launch of Altenso Australia is part of German-based SMA Altenso’s global expansion strategy, which so far includes operations in South Africa and Australia.

With more than a decade of international experience in delivering complex energy projects, the company said it has installed over 1.5 GW of large-scale battery storage systems and delivered more than 1 GW of power conversion units to hydrogen projects.
