Forum to explore WA's dynamic energy market

Western Australia’s energy market is undergoing transformational change, a topic that will be explored next month at the Clean Energy Council’s WA Clean Energy Forum (WACEF), powered by Goldwind.

Taking place on 7 February at Perth’s Pan Pacific Hotel, WACEF 2023 will cover the decarbonisation of mining, opportunities for offshore wind and green hydrogen, First Nations engagement and participation in clean energy, and the continuing evolution of rooftop solar in powering homes, businesses and remote communities.

Clean Energy Chief Executive Officer Kane Thornton said that the integration of renewable energy in Western Australia and the speed at which it’s taking place illustrated the many options and opportunities available to other states, as well as to grids elsewhere in the world.

“Over the last five years, renewable energy generation in Western Australia has doubled to 31.5%. The policy landscape has matured significantly, with the state putting its past as a laggard behind it.

“Late in 2022, the Western Australia Energy Market was operating on 81% renewable energy. The majority of that was coming from rooftop solar, and that’s without a big battery or a hydropower facility. While the renewable energy landscape is evolving, the state is a fascinating example of making the best use of the clean, low-cost resources available.”
