Australian innovation connects apartments to solar

An Australian energy tech company has reported it has connected 10,000 apartments to solar energy across Australia, UK, USA and Germany.

Melbourne-based Allume developed its SolShare technology to allow solar energy from a single rooftop PV system to be shared between multiple apartments in the same building.

Of the 10,000 apartments the company has connected, 6000 are located in Australia, with Allume’s data indicating residents’ bills are 34% cheaper on average per apartment.

As a result of SolShare’s success, Allume has grown 109% over the past three years, and is predicted to double again in 2026.

The company’s vision has dovetailed with government subsidy programs such as Victoria’s Solar for Apartments Rebates and the NSW Solar for Apartment Residents (SoAR) Grant, which make solar a more attractive option for owners committees.

“We’re incredibly proud that our homegrown technology is providing people — who were previously locked out – with direct access to cheaper, cleaner solar power right from their own rooftops,” said Allume CEO & Co-Founder Cameron Knox.

“Connecting 10,000 households to SolShare proves that the transition to renewables can, and should, be accessible to all.”
