ACT appoints market adviser for solar power project

Tuesday, 16 December, 2008

The ACT Labor Government has appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers as the external adviser for the market testing stage of the territory's planned solar power facility.

“PricewaterhouseCoopers is one of the world’s leading financial and asset management firms. They have extensive experience in renewable energy projects and infrastructure procurement, which they will be able to apply to this market testing process,” said Energy Minister, Simon Corbell.

The appointment of an external adviser follows the announcement in September 2008 that the government would seek proposals from suitably qualified companies for the construction of a large-scale ACT solar power facility.

“PricewaterhouseCoopers’ expertise is strengthened by its unique partnership with Wes Stein, who has been appointed as the external solar power expert," said Corbell.

"Mr Stein is a recognised authority on solar power technologies. He is currently working as the Project Leader of the National Solar Energy Centre and Manager of Renewable Energy for the CSIRO’s Division of Energy Technology."

Corbell said the government intends to publicly call for solar power facility construction proposals in early 2009.
