ABB launches eco-friendly transformer for Australian market
ABB, the global power and automation technology group, has launched Biotemp filled power and distribution transformers as part of the ‘ABB Green Transformers for a better world 2011’ campaign.
Biotemp is a natural ester-based fluid made from renewable vegetable-based oil that is claimed to offer environmental benefits, improved transformer performance and fire-resistant properties compared to traditional mineral oil dielectric fluids.
The transformer offers increased overload capability without compromising insulation lifespan under normal loading conditions.
Biotemp fluid is listed as a “less flammable” dielectric fluid by Factory Mutual (FM Global) and classified as a “less hazardous” dielectric medium in respect to fire hazard by Underwriters Laboratories, according to the company press release.
It is suitable for environmentally sensitive locations, indoor substations and in tighter spaces outdoors without additional fire safety requirements.
