Pier DC opens new facility in WA
Data centre operator Pier DC has opened a new Tier III-certified facility in Canning Vale, Perth.
The $20 million wholly WA-owned and -operated facility supports the strong demand for co-location and managed services in Western Australia. The Tier-III certification by Uptime Institute validates that Pier DC meets the stringent requirements for co-location and wholesale data centre service providers for GovNext, enabling the company to offer strategic data centre services to all Western Australian state and local government agencies over the next five years.
Pier DC’s customers include NEC, Datacom, ATOS and ITC Global. The solutions available at the facility include support in managed services, cloud, voice collaboration, VPN and network, security, co-location and satellite.
The facility, located 20 kilometres from Perth's CBD, provides a total capacity of 1000 racks and a total usable floor space of more than 2500 square metres. It was designed and constructed within 12 months and launched operations in 2016.
The facility has used Corning EDGE8, the multiple award-winning preterminated Base-8 optical cabling system for data centres. Other vendors include Vertiv (chillers and air handlers), Siemens (Sight pass access system), Cummins (generators), Everett-Smith (data centre infrastructure installation) and ICM (Electrics).
