Tecnalia GPON tester

The Tecnalia GPON tester can be used for validation and certification of a GPON network. It consists of OLT-Emulator and GPON-Tester.

Using the connection to a laptop and GPON-Tester software allows advanced measures, such as reflections in uplink, power in both the uplink and in downlink, distance to the OLT, emulate the ONT of the client to synchronise with the OLT emulator or to a real OLT operator and verify the correct subscriber’s service provisioning.

Digitally signed reports are generated with the information of the analysis of the connection, which is used to certify the state and the proper installation of the connection by the in-field technician and allows tracing of the parameters of the connection at the moment of the installation. GPON-Tester can additionally make, in 2 s, a test autonomously by a button and LED controls on the front, in order to facilitate the identification of failures and maintenance in a GPON network already deployed and in use.

The process of verification and certification takes place during the PON network deployment, before putting it in service. In this case, an OLT-Emulator is placed in the centre in order to ‘ring’ the fibre, establishing a logical GPON network and to perform power measurements in the uplink. Concurrently, the technicians then proceed to the distribution boxes of the buildings with the GPON-Tester equipment and a laptop with the GPON-Tester App. Using both, it will certify the correct operation and optical parameters of each of the lines that will enter into service in the future, enclosing both the measures detected by the GPON-Tester and those sent by the OLT-Emulator. The GPON-Tester can be used individually to quickly detect defective lines and solve specific problems.

The tester weighs less than 1 kg with battery autonomy of over 2 h. Each OLT Emulator PON port allows the concurrent interaction with 64 GPON Tester, allowing it to certify simultaneously 64 PON branches in each of the 4 PON networks while minimising the time of certification of the fibre infrastructure.
