WA regulator issues new guidance for solar installations
WA safety regulator Building and Energy has developed new guidance for the electrical industry in relation to the installation of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
More specifically, the guidance addresses compliance requirements for existing PV arrays when installing BESS — repairs vs alterations.
Building and Energy emphasised that the responsibility for compliance of the electrical installation (to the relevant standards) rests with the electrical contractor performing the work.
As each site and situation may be different, it’s necessary to thoroughly inspect and assess the installation — and the rating and condition of the equipment — to determine what additional work is required to ensure the installation is safe and fit for purpose following alterations and/or repairs.
