Essential Energy opens applications for 2027 Graduate Program

Applications are now open for Essential Energy’s 2027 Graduate Program, with 22 positions available for graduates looking to build careers in regional, rural and remote parts of NSW, as well as southern Queensland.

The program offers opportunities to train in disciplines such as electrical engineering, AI and machine learning, technology and AI risk, business improvement (AI), AI engineering for digital operations, cybersecurity, IT (platforms), and supply chain.

Successful applicants will gain hands-on experience in areas including network modernisation, digital enablement, cyber resilience, operational technology, procurement improvement and customer-focused innovation. AI-aligned roles are also available, supporting the skills and technology needed to operate a smarter, more resilient network as the energy system evolves.

Participants in the two-year program will be rotated across the business, receiving tailored learning and hands-on experience from day one, according to Essential Energy.

To support their learning, graduates will have access to a dedicated development program, mentoring, buddy arrangements and guidance from industry specialists.

“Essential Energy’s Graduate Program is a key investment in our organisation’s future capability and in the communities we serve,” said Essential Energy Organisational Development Senior Program Specialist Sally Kay.

“These roles offer meaningful career pathways and the chance to contribute to a safe, sustainable and technology-enabled energy network.”

Essential Energy said it offers a supportive, inclusive and development-focused environment where graduates can contribute to meaningful work from the start of their training.

In line with the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, 30% of roles are Female Identified positions, supporting greater representation in non-traditional fields and ensuring the organisation reflects the communities it serves.

The organisation was recognised in the 2026 Equitable Workplace Awards for the third straight year, receiving the WORK180 Flexible Working Arrangements Large Enterprise Award and the WORK180 Mining, Energy and Resources Large Enterprise Industry Award for equity and inclusion. WORK180 also ranked Essential Energy in the top 10 of Australia’s Top 101 Workplaces for Women.

Applications for the Graduate Program opened 7 April and will close at 11.55 pm (AEST) on Sunday, 10 May 2026.
