Aust hospital, farmers' market among KNX finalists

Three projects from Australia are among the finalists for the KNX Awards 2022, a long-standing competition that seeks to recognise the smartest use of KNX devices in home and building automation. The Australian projects are: Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) Park House by SyncWise, the New Maitland Hospital by mySmart and Greenspace Darling Park by In Control Automation Pty Ltd.

SyncWise’s Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) Park House is a residential project in Chermside, Queensland, which provides homes for young disabled people.

In its submission, SyncWise stated that the project was about providing age-appropriate and dignified homes for young people living with high physical support needs. Australian not-for-profit Youngcare is offering nine SDA apartments for high physical support needs within the 51-apartment complex.

“Every unit is equipped with state-of-the-art home automation technology throughout,” SyncWise said. “[A] KNX-based system was the perfect choice for this project, enabling each tenant to live independently, but also to have one caretaker to [have] control over all the different units 24/7. Each tenant is able to control all aspects of the room from wall switches, mobile devices and voice recognition. This was only made possible by using the flexibility KNX can offer.”

As part of the $470 million NSW Government-funded New Maitland Hospital in NSW, mySmart used a KNX lighting control system to increase energy efficiency and to complement the new hospital’s forward-thinking design.

A finalist in the Innovation category, In Control Automation Pty Ltd used a range of KNX applications in its work for the Greenspace urban farm projects in Sydney, NSW, including lighting, HVAC, smart metering and remote monitoring systems.
