Smartrak fleet management and GPS tracking

Smartrak’s Fleet Management System and GPS tracking software is a cloud-based solution usable on PCs, Macs and iOS/Android smartphones and tablets.

The suite offers functionality including route optimisation, pool booking, job dispatch and emergency alert monitoring.

The system comprises an automatic vehicle locator (AVL) GPS unit with a built-in three-axis accelerometer, a cellular modem and an optional satellite modem. The satellite modem is capable of providing a location precision to better than 1.5 m in open sky conditions.

In areas where obtaining an accurate GPS fix can be difficult - such as in underground tunnels or areas surrounded by high-rise buildings - Smartrack uses its “dead reckoning technology” to provide continuous navigation and tracking.

Smartrack also provides in-vehicle GPS navigation, communication and fleet management devices that can be used to dispatch and track jobs and provide controllers with constantly updated information about the status of a job.

The product suite also includes personal locator devices, a range of emergency alarms and driver identification hardware.

Hardware devices are backed by software including a mapping module complete with visualisation capabilities. Controllers can mark points of interest and set up virtual boundaries or geofences.

The system also includes methods to generate reports to help manage and track the performance of a vehicle fleet. Graphical reports are presented in a ‘dashboard’ fashion and can measure details including distance travelled, places visited, time spent idling or speeding, driver hours and rest breaks.

A Vehicle Booking Module meanwhile allows controllers to allocate the best vehicle for a job and to ensure vehicles are always available when needed. Vehicles can be searched by type, group or category, and the system can be used to set up bookings and provide notifications to drivers.
