Lighting control company Organic Response is among the eight finalists for the Australian Cleantech Competition 2013. Organic Response’s revolutionary lighting control system uses ‘distributed intelligence’ to deliver maximum energy savings with optimal occupancy comfort.

The finalists will compete for Australia’s best clean technology title in Sydney on 2 October.

  • Elevare Energy - a power electronics company using its technology to make energy storage with batteries commercially viable reducing GHGs and rising power prices.
  • RayGen Resources - solar technology that combines the most efficient solar cells with the most efficient collector to produce the world’s lowest-cost concentrated solar system.
  • Specialty Coatings - EnerSheet is a fibreglass composite roof sheeting product with embedded thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) material.
  • Global Future Solutions - a biotechnology company producing environmentally safer products for the oil and gas, poultry, life sciences and sanitation industries .
  • Microheat Technologies - advanced fluid heating technology results in a compact and energy efficient point-of-use instantaneous hot water heater.

The top 30 finalists were previously announced in June and over the past two months have received extensive mentoring and support from some of country’s leading advisers to help them develop and grow their businesses. In addition to the national winner, the top 30 semifinalists are vying to win specific industry awards announced on the night in key sectors including mining, manufacturing, food and beverage and the built environment.

The competition is principally supported by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education and sponsored by Autodesk, with individual industry awards being sponsored by Dairy Australia and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

The Australian winner will represent the country in the Global Clean Technology Ideas Competition in November. In addition, the winners and others in the top 30 will attend a trade mission to Hong Kong, China and Singapore to meet with potential partners, customers and investors and develop their export market.
