In a constantly evolving industry, it has always been critical for electrical contracting businesses to stay one step ahead of the game. Whether in keeping up to date with industry news or with regulatory changes, there are numerous administration duties that need to be taken care of on top of the day-to-day running of a business.

After five years as a national accreditation scheme, Master Electricians Australia (MEA) has developed an understanding of what our members and their businesses need to not only stay afloat in the industry, but continue to progress and flourish. It has also become apparent that there is a need for more voices across the country to be heard in regard to addressing industry issues.

This is why MEA has this month officially launched a new membership category Australia-wide following a change in constitution. This doesn’t mean that the association has lowered the bar for accreditation. What this means is that more people within the industry and across Australia will have access to MEA’s suite of membership benefits, without the need to achieve the existing accreditation benchmark.

MEA is able to offer guidance in the form of a technical support hotline, HR and employment advice, and regular updates on industry news and regulatory changes, to name a few. More importantly, businesses that choose to work towards gaining Accredited Master Electrician status would have access to all our support networks.

As mentioned, MEA has also identified a key need for businesses nationwide to have a voice of representation. Businesses are likely to be ill equipped to handle the inner workings of bureaucratic policies and issues. With five years’ experience under its belt, MEA has made a number of representations to government over the years that have resulted in successful outcomes for the industry both at a state and national level.

Having a partner that is able to offer support in running aspects of the business can sometimes be the difference between staying afloat or going under during tough economic times. With a new membership category, businesses and members can not only be assured of MEA’s support and assistance when navigating tricky industry issues, but have the peace of mind in knowing that their business and employees are well looked after.
