NECA SA 2007 Excellence awards

The South Australia NECA Excellence Awards and Apprentice Awards were held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday 24 August, with ten of the state's leading contractors and three top electrical and communications apprentices recognised for their outstanding achievements. The Leader of the Opposition, Martin Hamilton-Smith MP, set the tone at the event with his ideas about making it easier for businesses to develop, succeed and achieve excellence.

The awards, in their 13th year in SA, show that electrical and communications contractors are not only installers, but are also the designers, specifiers, project managers and often financiers of projects.

The apprentice awards assessed applicants on their technical abilities, general knowledge, attitude and desire to succeed in their career. The winners will go on to compete at the national level for the NECA Apprentice of the Year Award.

The project winners were:

Domestic category: Deadshort Electrical for Madurta House;
Small Contracting Business category: Power and Drive Solutions for Great Southern Railways power van upgrade;
Environment and Energy Efficiency category: Watters Electrical Adelaide for City Central Tower 1;
Occupational Health and Safety category: VIP Electrical Services for OH&S Management System with commendation to MIE Electrical for Goodwood Railway Station;
Industrial category: Electric Solutions for Mondello farm machine controls;
Voice & Data - large project (greater than $500,000) category: TAC Pacific for Queen Elizabeth Hospital redevelopment;
Commercial - small project (less than $500,000) category: Niramar for Prince Alfred College;
Commercial - medium project (between $500,000-$1,000,000) category: Leane Electrical for Stillwell Ford dealership;
Commercial - large project (over $1,000,000) category: Boffa & Russo Electrical Contractors for Advertiser & Sunday Mail Newspapers building with commendation to O'Donnell Griffin for Flinders Link Stage 4 (Santos Building);
Perpetual Trophy for best project overall: Power and Drive Solutions for Great Southern Railway power van upgrade.
