SAFETYconnect 2017 — compliance, safety and a high-voltage mock trial

Thursday, 03 August, 2017

If you manufacture or import products to sell into Australian or international markets and would like to learn about product certification and compliance, then the two-day SAFETYconnect 2017 conference and exhibition is a must-attend event for you. The event will be held from 16–17 August 2017 at Rosehill Gardens Function Centre, Sydney.

As a part of the conference, SAI Global Product Services Global Sales Manager Glenn Barlow will present a seminar titled ‘Demystifying product certification’. The recent Infinity cable debacle raised significant concerns around product compliance and dodgy imports. In his presentation, Barlow will provide insights on how to manage the risk if the product does not perform and/or causes injury or death. He will also cover the complex matter of standards, both Australian and International, and how to demystify mandatory or non-mandatory requirements of standards and certification.

The dual-stream SAFETYconnect conference program features a number of local and international experts presenting papers on the latest developments in workplace health and safety, both at the corporate and industrial level.

The program includes a mock trial about a high-voltage incident, which is being conducted by Sparke Helmore Lawyers. An interactive court simulation will provide insight into the prosecution process and what happens when a worker, supervisor and manager are called as witnesses, and highlight important legal issues. The session has been designed to prompt workers to rethink how their day-to-day actions could be perceived by a judge when deciding whether legislation has been breached. It will provide workers with an understanding of the duties of workers and officers under the Work Health and Safety legislation and how their day-to-day actions or omissions can breach the Act; the type of questions witnesses may be asked in the courtroom; and the decision a judge is likely to reach based on the evidence, health and safety legislation, and statutory guidelines.

A regulator panel, featuring regulators from Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, will discuss current WHS/OHS trends and what’s on the horizon.

The conference and exhibition will feature over 40 leading vendors and is expected to attract over 400+ senior WHS and business professionals from a broad range of industry sectors, including transport, construction, education, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, utilities, government and more. The brands to be represented at the event include uvex Safety, Paramount Safety Group, Safety Mate, ENGENEOHS Alliance, Move 4 Life, WellBeing GROW, AssistEM, Signet, Verge Safety Barriers, Uneedit Supplies, Roobuck, Non-Slip Floor Solutions, Avatar Technology, SignViz, Pratt Safety Systems, Thorzt, ProChoice Safety Gear, Pro-Visual Publishing, SCRIM Safety First, Ergopack, Linq Height Safety, Vitality Works and more.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, network and see the latest products and services on the expo floor. Free exhibition passes are available, as well as a limited number of one- and two-day conference tickets. Visit www.safety-connect.com.au for full event details and ticketing options.
